Professional Development Calendar

KC/IABC offers monthly professional development programs, alternating breakfast and lunch meetings every other month. Lunch meetings are at Brio Tuscan Grille on the Country Club Plaza and breakfast meetings are at the Kansas City Cafe on Grand. Check back as our schedule is updated throughout the year.

  • Thursday, Feb. 2, Business Communicators Summit: In lieu of our regular monthly program, the Business Communicators Summit is a full-day event for communicators in the Midwest. Learn more and register.
  • Thursday, March 15, Brio Tuscan Grille, lunch: “Learn the Secrets of Award-Winning Communicators” featuring Brad Whitworth, ABC, IABC Fellow, and senior communication manager for emerging solutions ecosystems at Cisco Systems Inc. in San Francisco.
  • Thursday, April 19, Kansas City Cafe, breakfast: “Does Anyone Still Use Email Marketing” featuring Jessica Best from emfluence, a KC-based digital marketing agency. She will assess the family feud between email and social media and which brother will win.
  • Thursday, May 3, The Uptown Theater: In lieu of our regular monthly program, KC/IABC will honor local communicators at the annual Bronze Quill Awards. The chapter’s annual Bronze Quill Awards promote personal and professional growth and recognize excellence in the field of business communication.
  • Thursday, June 14, Kansas City Cafe, breakfast: “Creating a Crisis Communications Crystal Ball” with attorney and consultant Max Muller.
  • Thursday, July 19, Brio Tuscan Grille, lunch: “Why Should Communicators Care about Google Fiber in Kansas City?” featuring Rachel Hack, Kansas City’s community manager for Google.
  • Thursday, Aug. 16, Brio Tuscan Grille, lunch: “Tips for Better Video Storytelling” with Darren Mark and Kevin Schwarzenberger, principals at Scenic Road Productions.
  • Thursday, Sept. 20, Brio Tuscan Grille, lunch: “Success with a Brand-New Brand: Sporting KC Scores!” Andy Tretiak, vice president of marketing, Sporting Kansas City, and Sasha Victorine, director of business development, Sporting Innovations, will explain how Sporting Kansas City has become one of the most dynamic and engaging brands in Kansas City.
  • Thursday, Oct. 18, Brio Tuscan Grille, lunch: “The Seven Deadly Sins of Social Media” featuring Justin Goldsborough, social media strategist for Fleishman-Hillard Kansas City.
  • Thursday, Nov. 15, Kansas City Cafe, breakfast: “Understanding Mobile Communications” with Perry Puccetti, president of Triple-I Corp.
